The Breakers is an NSB burger & beer stalwart that has been around since the 1900s. The bright pink building is an original Flagler Avenue structure. Located right on New Smyrna Beach, the casual and relaxed restaurant serves up a wide variety of burgers, seafood and sandwiches. Because of that prime location, The Breakers gets busy! Don’t be scared off by the crowds, the staff knows how to handle it. Like a finely tuned machine, they keep the drinks flowing and burgers cooking.
We sat by the windows facing the beach, which is a prime spot for people watching. Those seats also afforded us a nice breeze coming off the ocean. The Breakers is located at the end of Flagler Avenue so it was fun to watch the cool cars and trucks coming on and off the beach.
The restaurant is dominated by a large two-sided bar and has a great selection of reasonably priced cocktails that fit the beach vibe. We sampled the Rum Runners and Pina Coladas, both of which were mixed to perfection and were just the right strength.
The menu skews towards burgers and seafood. They have a wide range of award-winning burgers like the Hawaiian Burger and the NSB Burger which is provolone, sautéed onions, green peppers & mushrooms topped with lettuce and tomato. For this visit, we opted for the seafood side of the menu though. We chose the fried shrimp and key lime seasoned mahi. The fried shrimp were done perfectly and the portion size was surprisingly big, we definitely departed with some leftovers. The mahi was cooked in their Breaker’s exclusive key lime seasoning which was new for us. It was also excellent. We did not have room for dessert, but did have a post-dinner cocktail since it was getting close to sunset. Our server was great and just let us linger to watch the sun go down.
Great food, great views and great service make Breaker’s a NSB favorite. Thanks for another awesome meal and dining experience!
