Panheads Pizzeria is a family-owned restaurant in historic downtown New Smyrna Beach on a side street right off Canal. They have become an NSB favorite with a combination of awesome food made with quality ingredients and great service in a relaxed atmosphere.
When we visited, we sat in their nice outdoor space. Sitting outside beneath the fans with an ice cold beer was very peaceful and chill. Our food took a little longer than we expected…but we could have sat there all day!
We initially went to Panheads after hearing about their “Pizza Flight” which is a brilliant idea I hadn’t heard of anywhere else. It allows you to sample several different types of pizzas or if people in your group have opposite tastes, everyone is happy. We abandoned that plan when we saw how expansive the menu is. They have some great starters, salads, sandwiches and of course….pizza. We wanted to try it all! The creativity in the pizza choices is super cool. Two popular ones are the White Wedding (baby spinach, artichoke hearts, roasted garlic, roma tomatoes, feta cheese) and the Sweet Home Alabama (roasted chicken, mushrooms, bacon, ranch drizzle).
For appetizers, we started with the Stuffed Jalapenos. Our server recommended them and they were excellent. Not fried and stuffed with sausage & cheese and served with a chili aoli. Definitely a great starter. We also ordered a Wedge Salad for something lighter before the pizza.
We decided to both order a pizza so that we’d have leftovers for the next day. I chose the “Flirting With Disaster” which was smoked BBQ pork, cheddar cheese, southern slaw, South Carolina drizzle. I was excited to try this since Panheads smokes their own meat. My wife selected the “Hair Of The Beast”
which included roasted chicken, bacon, banana peppers, jalapenos, blue cheese, roasted garlic and a mild buffalo drizzle. As I said before, they took awhile to arrive but when they did, they were piping hot squares of deliciousness. We both ended up having a piece left over for the next day, Panheads personal pizzas are good sized, especially after some appetizers.
We love to try locally owned restaurants with unique menus. Panheads Pizzeria overdelivered for us. We had a great time!
