Off the Hook Raw Bar & Grill in New Smyrna Beach is a rather unassuming place. Located in a strip mall near a Publix grocery store rather than on the water, you wouldn’t expect them to have such incredible seafood. But from oysters to fish to poke bowls, this restaurant has created raving fans since they opened. Fresh, local seafood is their forte, and they do a great job. That is why they are considered one of the best seafood restaurants in New Smyrna Beach.
Parking is easy since the restaurant is located in a strip mall. They have seating indoors and outdoors, and the bar is always a great place to eat as well. Inside the restaurant is casual but upscale, with plenty of TV’s to watch your favorite sports. The servers and bartenders are extremely nice, making the ambiance fun and friendly.
They have a full bar and lots of fun cocktails to go with your meal. As far as appetizers, Off the Hook has some unique ones. One is a cracked conch starter that is conch meat breaded in a batter made with flour, then deep-fried until golden and crispy and then served with remoulade. They are also well known for their oyster specials. Super fresh and priced fairly, their oysters draw a lot of locals to Off the Hook.
Another unique feature of Off the Hook is that besides seafood (which they do well), they are also known for Hawaiian cuisine like poke and Cajun recipes like jambalaya and crawfish etouffée.
One of my favorite entrees there is the seafood cavatappi. It is a mixture of fresh clams, mussels, shrimp and scallops sautéed in a light cream sauce with diced tomatoes and scallions served over cavatappi pasta. The seafood is fresh and cooked to perfection, while the sauce is light and delicious. It is a great choice if you want multiple types of seafoods. Some of my other “go-to’s” are the mahi fish tacos and the creole boil which includes shrimp, crawfish, andouille sausage, baby red potatoes, and roasted corn on the cob. The dry rub they use on the seafood is excellent.
If you happen to be in New Smyrna Beach, definitely consider giving Off the Hook a try. It is clean, friendly and most importantly, has amazing food. There is a reason why it is so popular with the locals. It is undercover seafood excellence right by Publix and earns it’s reputation as one of the best seafood restaurants in New Smyrna Beach Florida.
