With all of the great restaurants in New Smyrna Beach, somehow we missed visiting JB’s Fish Camp and Restaurant. Hard to believe because it has been an NSB staple since the 1970’s.
We are glad we checked it out. We love the location, laid back atmosphere, music on the detached stage and the food. It is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon and watch the sunset.
JB’s has a ton of picnic tables outside to sit at, as well as a nice dock that you can walk out on to try to spot birds, manatees, dolphins, etc. You can also bring your boat to JB’s and tie up right on their dock. They have kayaks and paddleboards to rent, so you can get out on the water and work up an appetite before eating. We haven’t tried it yet, but are looking forward to trying it sometime.
When we visited, we focused on seafood. They are famous for having some of the freshest seafood in New Smyrna Beach. In fact, if you have been out fishing that day, the cooks will prepare your catch for you. It doesn’t get fresher than that!
We started with the smoked fish dip and two Shark Attack IPA’s from New Smyrna Brewing. It is pretty hot outside on the deck, but that is just greater incentive to stay “hydrated” with cold beer. For our main courses, we chose the Blackened Grouper Sandwich and the Fried Shrimp. Both were decent portions and very good. JB’s also offers an alligator platter which is pretty unique in my opinion. Maybe next time we will try that.
After we ate, we stuck around for the live music and sunset. JB’s has live music every weekend which is definitely a reason to return.
With incredible views of the river, great seafood and ambiance galore, it is easy to see why JB’s has been a New Smyrna Beach stalwart for over fifty years.
