Black Dolphin Inn in New Smyrna Beach

Black Dolphin Inn, Florida

The Black Dolphin Inn is a lovely 14 room boutique inn overlooking the Indian River in New Smyrna Beach.  It opened in 2013 and has quickly become an award winning property including being the recipient of the 2014 TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice Award as one of the Top 10 Inns in the US.

The Black Dolphin is located away from the hustle and bustle of the beach, Flagler Avenue and even the downtown Canal Street shopping district, so future guests may want to make sure that they have access to a car.  The location is beautiful and quiet though, with well-manicured grounds and a private dock that guests can enjoy.  In fact, the name of the inn is derived from the many dolphins you can spot off that dock.

Besides an incredible location, one secret to the success of The Black Dolphin is the team running it. The Inn is owned by identical twins, Scott and Brett Smith, who have worked in hospitality management their entire life.  Their parents’ hotel has been in the family for over 60 years so the brothers have always been involved in the industry.  The Black Dolphin is their vision, and a culmination of experience garnered over many years.

Inside the hotel itself, no two rooms are the same and most of the rooms provide views of the Indian River.  The guest rooms and suites are designed to be very spacious with sophisticated interiors, stylish furnishings and spa-like bathrooms. The goal is for them to feel like a beautifully designed residence, not a mass market hotel.

With only 14 rooms, the Black Dolphin Inn may focus on personalized service and giving each guest a wonderful escape from everyday life.  Guests rave about how nice and helpful the staff is.  Complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast is available each day and a full “Southern style” breakfast on the weekends.  They have an onsite bar as well, so you can enjoy a cocktail on your balcony or the dock in the evening.

If you are looking for a little oasis to escape to, The Black Dolphin might be a great choice!
